I don’t know why I didn’t expect to see offensive rhymes from a book written more than a century ago, but I think it’s safe to say that I have been thoroughly brought back to reality with the worst original children’s rhyme that I have seen so far.

The current version is the very playful:

Eeny, meeny, miny moe,

Catch a tiger by the toe;

If it hollers let him go,

Eeny meeny miny moe.

Awwwwwwwwww, so cute it brings tears to my eyes.  As for the original, here goes nothing, I guess … (please don’t hate me.  I didn’t write these, I’m just spreading knowledge :-\):

Eeny, meeny, manny mo,

Catch a nigger by the toe;

When he hollers, let him go,

Eeny, meeny, manny, mo.

… Yes … I feel your pain !
